I’d love to take your picture.
On the surface, that sounds like a simple enough proposition. But as someone with a long background in acting and film production, I know how nerve wracking that can be. As people in the world, we get to define ourselves dynamically–moment to moment. All of a sudden, we step in front of a camera, and it feels as though we're being defined by one facial expression, one pose. When we we need these photos to express something about us to other people, it can feel like there’s a lot on the line. My goal at Eli Percy Photo is to create a different kind of experience.
As an actor, I’ve always embraced the concept of doing my homework and then throwing it all away for the performance. I do my homework in my photography as well; I like to talk to everyone I shoot before they come in. I want to get a sense of where you’re at and what these photos will mean to you. I want to make sure you know what to expect from our time together. We are collaborators and this is where our work begins. Once we've built that understanding, we can be free to let it all go in the moment–to experiment and play.
Everyone is different, so each session will be too. But in every session, I strive to create a relaxed atmosphere where you feel you have time to settle into a comfortable groove. Sometimes this means grounding you with techniques I've picked up that demystify modeling and posing. Sometimes it means letting you just be yourself.
We want to show you in the right light, literally. My lighting will be unique to you and your goals. I’m not looking for the prettiest picture. I’m looking for a picture that feels real. A picture that feels like it’s not trying to hide anything with bright lights and overediting. I’m looking for something that will make people stop and take another look. That lets people know you are comfortable and confident in what you have to offer. We want a picture that lets everyone know that you CANNOT be summed up in a picture.
That’s a high bar, but I believe we can make it happen together.
